Elvin Mosley Missing
ELLABELL-- A Bryan County family holds on to hope, five days after a loved one with Alzheimer's disappears.
Elvin Mosley, 82, of Ellabell hasn't been seen since Thursday evening.
"It was just that quick, and he was gone,” stated Thomas Young, Mosley’s son-in-law.
Young says he and several other relatives were working on family property on Hallelujah Trail May 6th when Mosley stated he was eager to go home.
"We were still doing some things around there, and he just got to the point where he was going to go," stated Young.
Young says Mosley managed to sneak away and drive off in a 2008 light blue Toyota Highlander. The keys were still in the SUV according to Young.
"He hadn't driven in over a year, so there was just not an issue to believe that he would get in the car and drive off,” stated Young.
When Young noticed Mosley gone, shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday, a search for him began.
"Everybody was out on the roads searching, back roads, hunt clubs, anywhere they could think of," stated Young.
"There have been helicopters out there, and the law has been out looking,” stated Emily Barfield, Mosley’s granddaughter.
Barfield describes her grandfather as one of the nicest men anyone could ever meet.
"He is completely happy. Any time he heard music he would start dancing. He may not have known who you were, but he was always nice to you,” stated Barfield.
According to family, Mosley is currently in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s.
"If you told him he had four children, he would say, 'I do? I didn't know that,’” stated Young.
With missing person signs posted all over Bryan County, Mosley’s family remains hopeful for his safe return home.
"We believe that God is in control and we're trusting on him for our support,” stated Young.
Mosley was last seen wearing a light blue polo shirt with navy stripes, jeans, loafers, and glasses with no hat.
If you have any information about Mosley’s whereabouts, you're asked to call the Bryan County Sheriff's Department at 912-653-2899.
Eugene Smith Missing
Witnesses last saw Eugene Smith, of 125 Sarsen Circle, about 2:30 p.m. Friday when a younger man drove Smith in his own car to Union Store, 151 Nellie B Ave., where Smith bought alcohol, police said.
A worker at Athens Country Club found the car Sunday morning, abandoned on the 11th hole of the golf course off Jefferson Road, police said.
Although investigators found no evidence of foul play inside the car and are treating Smith's disappearance as a missing person's case, they were trying to identify who the younger man was and would like to speak with him.
Athens-Clarke police officers and firefighters searched the golf course and surrounding area, but found no clues as to Smith's whereabouts.
Smith went missing once before, in 2005, but later turned up in New Orleans, according to police.
Witnesses reported that Smith was wearing blue jeans, a purple shirt and black shoes. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 200 pounds, police said.
Anyone with information about Smith should call Lt. Brad Collinsworth, (706) 613-3888, ext. 792, or after hours at (706) 613-3345.

Man missing after recent brain surgery found alive in Santa Clarita ravine
A 65-year-old man who recently underwent brain surgery and suffers from Alzheimer's disease and seizures had been missing more than 18 hours before a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy found him cold but alive early today in a dark ravine in Santa Clarita.
Medical professionals who responded suggested that, due to his health, Humberto Lara would not have survived the entire night had he not been found when he was, said Lt. Robert Norris of the sheriff's Santa Clarita Station.
Temperatures in the Santa Clarita area early today fell to the mid-30s, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.
Lara was located at 1:36 a.m. in a brush-filled draw near Flying Tiger Drive between Sierra Highway and the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, sheriff's Sgt. Daniel Stanley said in a telephone interview.
Lara was reported missing at 7 a.m. Thursday. About 10 p.m., a party of 30 that included volunteers, deputies, a scent dog, its handler, and a helicopter crew joined the search for Lara.
Early today, Deputy Robert Tunnell searched the dark draw near Flying Tiger Drive, Stanley said.
"It's a brushy ravine adjacent to the offramp," Stanley said. "The deputy had to walk right up on him to see him. He was assigned to that area and he was being thorough."
Lara, who lives near the ravine in a private residence in Canyon Country, was "extremely cold" when Tunnell found him, Stanley said.
The man seemed to be OK otherwise but rescuers took him to a hospital, according to Stanley.
The deputies and volunteers involved in the search responded from the Santa Clarita, Lancaster and Crescenta Valley stations.
