Elvin Mosely Body Found

ELLABELL, Ga.—Bryan County authorities confirmed late Wednesday night they had found the body of an elderly man with Alzheimer’s who had been missing since Tuesday.

Elvin Mosely, 82, was last seen at 4:00 pm Thursday afternoon near Ellabell. Mosely’s son apparently found his truck Wednesday evening, just a few miles from his home, and called authorities, who then launched a search.

The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office said Mosely’s body was found in a swamp a quarter to a half mile away from the truck. Investigators said Mosely apparently left his car, wandered into a swamp and was unable to get out.

Deputies said that if Mosely had been wearing a Project Lifesaver bracelet, then he would have probably been found Thursday night, hours after he drove off.

Mosely’s family told News 3 last week they had thought about getting the tracking bracelet but hadn’t joined the program yet.

Elvin Mosley Missing

ELLABELL-- A Bryan County family holds on to hope, five days after a loved one with Alzheimer's disappears.

Elvin Mosley, 82, of Ellabell hasn't been seen since Thursday evening.

"It was just that quick, and he was gone,” stated Thomas Young, Mosley’s son-in-law.

Young says he and several other relatives were working on family property on Hallelujah Trail May 6th when Mosley stated he was eager to go home.

"We were still doing some things around there, and he just got to the point where he was going to go," stated Young.

Young says Mosley managed to sneak away and drive off in a 2008 light blue Toyota Highlander.  The keys were still in the SUV according to Young.

"He hadn't driven in over a year, so there was just not an issue to believe that he would get in the car and drive off,” stated Young.

When Young noticed Mosley gone, shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday, a search for him began.

"Everybody was out on the roads searching, back roads, hunt clubs, anywhere they could think of," stated Young.

"There have been helicopters out there, and the law has been out looking,” stated Emily Barfield, Mosley’s granddaughter.

Barfield describes her grandfather as one of the nicest men anyone could ever meet.

"He is completely happy.  Any time he heard music he would start dancing.  He may not have known who you were, but he was always nice to you,” stated Barfield.

According to family, Mosley is currently in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s.

"If you told him he had four children, he would say, 'I do? I didn't know that,’” stated Young.

With missing person signs posted all over Bryan County, Mosley’s family remains hopeful for his safe return home.

"We believe that God is in control and we're trusting on him for our support,” stated Young.

Mosley was last seen wearing a light blue polo shirt with navy stripes, jeans, loafers, and glasses with no hat.

If you have any information about Mosley’s whereabouts, you're asked to call the Bryan County Sheriff's Department at 912-653-2899.

Eugene Smith Missing

Witnesses last saw Eugene Smith, of 125 Sarsen Circle, about 2:30 p.m. Friday when a younger man drove Smith in his own car to Union Store, 151 Nellie B Ave., where Smith bought alcohol, police said.

A worker at Athens Country Club found the car Sunday morning, abandoned on the 11th hole of the golf course off Jefferson Road, police said.

Although investigators found no evidence of foul play inside the car and are treating Smith's disappearance as a missing person's case, they were trying to identify who the younger man was and would like to speak with him.

Athens-Clarke police officers and firefighters searched the golf course and surrounding area, but found no clues as to Smith's whereabouts.

Smith went missing once before, in 2005, but later turned up in New Orleans, according to police.

Witnesses reported that Smith was wearing blue jeans, a purple shirt and black shoes. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 200 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information about Smith should call Lt. Brad Collinsworth, (706) 613-3888, ext. 792, or after hours at (706) 613-3345.

George M. Brown was found

George M. Brown was found Wednesday morning in Butler, Ga., by member of the Georgia Highway Patrol.

Brown,75, who suffers from Alzheimer's, has been reported missing since Monday morning.

At the time of his disappearance, he was following his wife as they took a vehicle of theirs to a repair shop in Santa Rosa County.

According to Sgt. Scott Haines with the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office, Brown's wife made it through the traffic light on Highway 90 in front of Home Depot, however George Brown got stopped at the light.

He never arrived at the repair shop and a Silver Alert was issued due to him disappearance and medical condition.

George Brown, who lives in Cantonment, was driving a 1994 green Ford Explorer with military decals on the front.

Late Monday night officers had an idea on his whereabouts as he used a credit card at a gas station in Quincy, Fla.

According to Haines, Brown's family went to Butler, Ga. to pick him up and he appears to be okay.

George M. Brown

An Alzheimer’s patient from Cantonment last seen in Pace on Monday has been located in Butler, Ga.

“He’s fine, and his family is on the way to pick him up,” Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Scott Haines said this morning.

George M. Brown, 75, of Cantonment, was last seen by his wife at an intersection on U.S. 90 in Pace near Home Depot at about 10:30 a.m. Monday, Haines said. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a “Silver Alert” for Brown, similar to an “Amber Alert” issued for missing children.

Brown’s vehicle was located by a Georgia law enforcement officer, in the pre-dawn hours this morning, Haines said. Brown had run out of gas and was walking on a dirt road. He was not wearing a coat in the cold morning air.

Butler is near Macon, which is on Interstate 75. Tuesday, Haines reported that Brown’s credit card had been used at a gas station north of Orlando — also near I-75.

On Tuesday, family and friends expressed concern for Brown.

"We're hopeful," said Mike Howell, pastor at Life Bridge Church in Pensacola, where Brown and his wife, Sharlene, are members. "We've contacted all of our members and everybody is praying. We've contacted other churches and there are numbers of folks around the country who are praying with us about this."

Brown is on daily medication for both Alzheimer's and high blood pressure, Howell said. He usually takes the medications in the morning, but doesn't have them with him. Brown was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about a year ago, Howell said.

"It's very upsetting, but we're hopeful everything will be fine," said Howell, who is speaking on behalf of the Browns.

Sharlene Brown, 73, is "terrified," Howell said, and did not want to speak publicly. The Browns have been married for 51 years. They have no children.

The Browns were in separate vehicles headed to Milton to get their vehicles serviced when the two got separated, Howell said.

"Somehow, a traffic light caught her, and he never stopped," Howell said. "She saw it when it happened and couldn't catch him."
