Morris Schiffman Found

Police located 79-year-old Morris Schiffman this morning and are working to reunite him with his family.

Schiffman, who family members say suffers from dementia, was last seen December 18th at a Panama City bank.

Eugene Gardner of Ozark says Schiffman stopped by his garage the next day and told him he was going to Birmingham.

That information helped authorities find Schiffman.

Eugene Gardner said, "he would in a few minutes he'd be right there with you and know where he was at and then just a few seconds later he wouldn't know he'd talk about the Korean war or something different from what we were doing."

Gardner last saw Schiffman Saturday just after 5:30 p.m.

  1. On Thursday, March 18, 2010, my husband & I observered an elderly man hitchiking on Back Beach about 12:30 PM. About 2 hours later on our return trip, we stopped at the Dollar General on Back Beach. This same man was wandering around the parking lot. He had some grocery purchases from the Dollar General. I approached him to ask if he was lost. He said that he needed a ride home. We gladly gave him one. He was able to tell us exactly where he lived on 14th St. We introduced ourselves, & he gave his name as Morris Schiffman, even spelling the last name. Having a father (now deceased) with dementia, I recognized Morris’ problem. Today he was still on my mind, so I googled his name. I was surprised to see this entry. I am glad that we were able to get him safely home, but I can assure you that this will not be his last “escape”. Please…..place him a more safe environment.
